My Epic Summer Trip

Aug 15, 2024

In my opinion, there are three main benefits to having a successful online course business:

  • Money

  • Impact

  • Freedom

Today, I want to focus on the freedom aspect. Over the past four weeks, I’ve been on an incredible European adventure with my family, working only four hours the entire time (just a couple of two-hour calls with my coaching clients).

And today, I’d love to share some highlights from our trip.

 Let’s dive in.

First Stop - Annecy, France

We flew into Geneva, Switzerland, and made the short 45-minute drive to Annecy, France. Annecy holds a special place in our hearts and is one of my favorite cities in the world. The city is nestled beside the stunningly clear Lake Annecy, with the French Alps providing a breathtaking backdrop. It’s a small city with a slow pace, but there’s still plenty to see and do.

Annecy is also where I proposed to my wife back in 2010, and when our first daughter was born in 2015, we named her after this beautiful city.

We’ve visited Annecy several times, and here are some highlights from this trip:

  • Playing tennis with incredible views.

  • My daughter Annecy went paragliding for the first time (her mom took her—I’m terrified of heights!).

  • Renting a boat on Lake Annecy.

  • Relaxing on the beaches.

  • Walking through a glacier in the nearby town of Chamonix.

  • Hiking for epic views of Mont Blanc.

  • Receiving free goodies when locals found out we named our daughter after their city!

If you love to travel and haven’t been to Annecy, France, add it to your list!

Hamburg, Germany

Months ago, when we were planning this trip, my wife excitedly told me, “Guess what! Taylor Swift is going to be in Europe while we’re there, and she’s performing in Germany on Annecy’s birthday! We have to try to go!”

Well, we made it happen. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever kept a secret for so long. Annecy loves Taylor Swift’s music and has been dying to go to a concert. So, we surprised her on her birthday in Hamburg, Germany, with tickets for that night. She was blown away, and we had an amazing time at the concert.

Fun fact: My wife and I attended a Taylor Swift concert in our hometown when she was eight months pregnant with Annecy. So, I kept telling Annecy she had already been to a concert :)

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Amsterdam has been on my travel list for a long time, but I hadn’t made it there until this summer.

You always hear about the bikes in Amsterdam, but nothing can truly prepare you.

They are everywhere! I was constantly on edge, worried that my kids (or I) might get run over by a bicyclist at any moment.

But you know what they say—if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em!

We did a countryside bike tour, ate plenty of apple pie, visited the NEMO Science Museum, took a boat around the canals, and more.

London, England

London never disappoints.

We toured the inside of Buckingham Palace, had afternoon tea, enjoyed fish and chips, went to see the Matilda musical, visited Kew Gardens, and took a short day trip to Great Missenden to visit the Roald Dahl Museum.

Oh, and we also ate at Borough Market a couple of times. If you’re ever in London, go to The Black Pig at Borough Market and order “The Best One.” You can thank me later.

Paris, France

With four cities down and two to go, our trip was quickly winding down. We only had about five days left, but they were packed with excitement.

Our goals for Paris were simple:

  • Attend the Olympics

  • Go to Disneyland so our youngest daughter’s birthday could be just as epic as her sister’s.

Both goals were a huge success.

We made it to an Olympic tennis match, cheering on the USA vs. Australia in the men’s doubles semifinals (congrats to Australia on the win!).

Then we headed east of the city to surprise our youngest daughter with her birthday treat—Disneyland Paris.

Lyon, France

Our final destination was Lyon, the second-largest city in France. Lyon is known for its incredible food, and it just so happens to have my favorite restaurant on the planet—Restaurant L’Entrecôte. The menu is simple: steak frites. And it’s SO GOOD.

 Conclusion

I hope you didn’t mind me mixing it up a bit with today’s article. I’ll be back next week with something more business-oriented.

But I thought this would be a fun change of pace, and I love sharing the adventures I get to have with my family.

I’m rooting for you.
